Bats

Do you ever find droppings outside your front door?  They are too small to be rat droppings, but COULD pass as mouse droppings, but you’re unsure.  Well, this is a common occurrence, especially in Gold Canyon and East Mesa, and we get many calls regarding it.

When I go out to calls to address issues like this, most of the time the culprits are actually BATS!  Unfortunately, there is not much a homeowner can do to prevent these guys from coming around at night to eat the flying bugs that hang out in doorways.  I’ve read that a lot of times, doing the opposite of what you normally do helps resolve the issue.  For instance, if you never leave your patio light on, try turning it on for a few nights to see if that deters them.  Now, I know having the light on sounds like it’s going to just attract more flying insects, and that can be the case, however, it may confuse the bats enough to skip your house.

Another option that I’ve been told about by customers is a plug-in made by CLEANRTH.  This is a little noise making repeller that has different settings for bats and rodents.  I don’t know that there is scientific proof that these work, but people who have utilized them, swear by them.

Bats are actually pretty beneficial.  They eat mosquitoes, flies, and other annoying pests.  They also really aren’t out trying to bother people.  They come out at night, do their thing, and return to whatever cave or hideout until the next nightfall.  A lot of bats are also protected, so it’s up to us humans living in THEIR territory, to try and allow bats to keep “batting.”

Hope everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween!
