The Carpenter Ant

Carpenter ants are something I have not ever really talked about before. These medium sized, black ants are most often found up north in wooded areas, where most homes are built in the “cabin” style. Basically these ants will burrow into wood themselves or go into a drywood termite colony’s territory and kill off the colony and take over their area.

Evidence that you have carpenter ants could be physically seeing these ants crawling in and out an area of your home, or even a nearby tree. Another indication would be finding their “frass” which is basically another word for small uniformed wood chip pieces that they throw out while burrowing. Carpenter ant frass should not be confused with termite frass, which is very similar looking to sawdust. Ant frass can also include body parts of dead ants because they will eat their own kind if need be. Carpenter ants are just another wood destroying insect that we at Bug Off take care of!
